U23s REPORT: Barnsley 3-4 Bolton

8 December 2017

Paul Harsley's young side are beaten in the proverbial 'game of two halves' here at Oakwell this afternoon.

The Reds were beaten in this Professional Development League encounter in a seven goal thriller.

In bitterly cold conditions, the Reds came flying out of the blocks, with Victor Adeboyejo and Romal Palmer testing the visitors 'keeper early on.

On 14 minutes they took a deserved lead.

Jack Walton's long kick was expertly flicked on by Adeboyejo into the path of the on-rushing Louis Wardle and he slotted calmly into the far corner for 1-0.

Eight minutes later and after a sterling run and cross on the right by Dimitri Cavare, Adeboyejo was there to make it 2-0.

On 27 minutes it was 3-0.

Jacob Brown was hauled down by the 'keeper and up stepped Adeboyejo to send the goalie the wrong way from the spot.

It was a dominant first half performance from Harsley's men, but was slightly spoilt when Bolton pulled a goal back in the dying stages.

HALF TIME: Barnsley 3-1 Bolton

On 51 minutes Adeboyejo nearly completed his hat-trick when Matty Wolfe played him through on goal, but saw his shot blocked.

And five minutes later, Bolton made it 3-2.

The Reds struggled to clear their lines and after a scramble inside the box, a Bolton man tapped home.

On 65 minutes it was 3-3.

A dubious penalty was awarded when Ben Williams seemed to have hooked clear from inside the box, the referee deeming it a foul. The Bolton man stroked home the equaliser.

With 10 minutes remaining, the visitors completed the turnaround.

A superb effort from inside the box found the roof of the net for 4-3.

And despite the red card for a defender who cleaned out Wardle when charging through on goal, Bolton finished the game comfortably and recorded a stunning comeback win.
