The League Football Education's new national competition has been set-up to highlight the football and academic progress of eleven apprentice players across the land.
Maris, who joined Barnsley as an Under 15 player, scored 20 goals last season, including two hat-tricks for the Under 18s and the award is in part due to his achievements on the pitch as well as his efforts on the apprenticeship programme which encompass education and community based initiatives.
