Arriving at Oakwell following a breakthrough 2016/17 season with Blackpool, where his goal and assist at Wembley saw the Tangerines promoted back to League One, the former Carlisle midfielder arrived in Barnsley looking to take his impressive lower league form into the Championship with the Reds.

A tall and imposing midfield man, Potts likes to drive the play forward powerfully from midfield whilst getting into the box to support the frontmen.

His three-year contract was agreed in August of 2017 following an undisclosed move from the Seaside.

All-action displays, goals against Preston, Bristol City, Millwall and Burton got Potts settled in at Oakwell as he became a permanent fixture in the Reds side in the 2017/18 campaign, eventually named runner-up in the Player of the Year voting.
