Appointed as Head Coach at Oakwell in November of 2019, Gerhard Struber arrived with a growing continental reputation having led previous club Wolfsberger AC in the UEFA Europa League and guiding the Austrian club to unprecedented heights in the Austrian Bundesliga.
A former player in his homeland, Struber won the Austrian Bundesliga with Salzburg as a midfielder and later the Austrian Super Cup, before featuring with less notable clubs as his playing career came to a close.
After retiring and getting a 'normal' job, a few years down the line, Gerhard re-entered football by way of coaching. After working at his former club's academy and gaining a reputation for his development of young talent, he was appointed Head Coach at FC Liefering but after a 5th-place finish he left to complete his UEFA Pro License.
Upon successfully completing his education he was appointed at Wolfsberger and left the club sat in 3rd position of both the Bundesliga and their Europa League group, having drawn with Italian giants AS Roma and thumped German outfit Borussia Mönchengladbach 4-0 away from home.
Struber would soon make an enormous impact at Oakwell, steering the club to Sky Bet Championship safety against all the odds.
