Signed on deadline day during the summer 2019 transfer window from Admira Wacker, Patrick Schmidt was the final piece of the jigsaw for the Reds upon their return to the Sky Bet Championship.
A hard-working, quick-thinking striker who has shone at every level in his early career, Schmidt arrived in England hoping to make his mark for the Reds. And he did that with a last-gasp winner away at Millwall in the first half of the 2019/20 campaign.
Despite limited game-time, the Austrian striker scored another crucial goal against Nottingham Forest in July of 2020, before then setting up the winner at Brentford, a result that secured the Reds' second tier status.
After again struggling to get opportunities, particularly once Valérien Ismaël arrived as Head Coach, the striker left on-loan, joining Austrian outfit SV Ried.
In the summer of 2021, Patrick made another loan move, this time to Denmark joining Esbjerg fB for the duration of the 2021/22 season.
