THEO CHAPMAN ON FINAL DAY VICTORY OVER BURNLEY

16 May 2024

U21s midfielder Theo Chapman gave his assessment of the Reds' victory over Burnley in the Professional Development League at Oakwell.

The Reds rounded off the season with a controlled performance against the Clarets.

Fabio Jalo opened the scoring with an emphatic free-kick from 20 yards, before Chapman doubled the scoring from the spot just after the restart to seal all three points for Tom Harban's men.

The penalty scorer gave his thoughts post-match:

"It was a tough match really. They had some good spells, had some good opportunities, but I thought we deserved the outcome. I thought we played well at times. Obviously, we'd have liked to have played a bit more football but we played to the game and I think overall we did really well."

The win signalled the final result of the campaign, meaning the young Reds finished just one point outside of the top two and the subsequent play-offs.

It is the best season for the U21s in Barnsley history and the 19-year-old celebrated the achievement despite just missing out.

"We've had some poor results and some good results throughout this season. Overall, I think we've done well. To get as far as we did and get the amount of points that we did. I think we should be pleased."
