JOHN McATEE ON BOLTON DRAW

6 March 2024

John McAtee gave his thoughts post-Bolton Wanderers to iFollow Barnsley.

McAtee gave us the lead after 25 minutes with a cool finish one-on-one with Joel Coleman following Maël de Gevigney's relentless pressure high up the pitch meaning the ball fell to the Luton loanee in the area.

Despite the Reds taking a two goal lead in the affair, the visitors fought back to earn a point at Oakwell in a frantic top of the table clash.

Post-match, the 24-year-old was tinged with slight disappointment but stressed the importance of maintaining a view of the bigger picture at play in the midst of emotion.

"Obviously the way the game ended is difficult to take. You could say it feels like a loss, albeit it's not. The unbeaten run keeps going and we've got to take that on. But I think at the same time, at 2-0, we're playing well as well. We could have had a couple more, maybe some better decision-making, myself and all the lads. The type of game it was and who it was against. We'll take some sort of confidence from that. The way we played for the first 75, it's a little bit deflating."
