Today, our Inclusive Reds participants were surprised with a visit from Barnsley FC first team players Jordan Williams, Jamie McCart, and Jon Russell.
The Inclusive Reds programme is funded through the Premier League Fans Fund and covers a wide range of disabilities to give participants a safe space to thrive. It takes place every Wednesday in the Community Trust building and is split into two parts - the morning starts with learning new skills, whether that be first aid, E safety, or other life skills, and it also includes arts and crafts, quizzes and board games. The afternoon then incorporates physical exercise in a fun and inclusive way through different multi-sports and activities.
Our players joined the group for their last session before the Easter Break. The participants spent the morning taking part in Easter based arts and crafts and quizzes, while the players joined after lunch for a Q&A before moving pitchside to take part in an Easter Egg hunt.
Barnsley FC skipper, Jordan Williams said: “It’s been a pleasure to spend some time at this programme, and interact with the participants. We could see how the space is made for them to feel comfortable and honestly that really came through. They were all welcoming and it was great to take part in an Easter Egg hunt with them.”
Barnsley FC Community Trust Inclusion officer, Jake Batty added: "It’s been great to have the players down at our session today and interacting with our participants. The session is really important and showcases the work we do to make sport inclusive for everyone. We would like to extend our thanks to Jordan, Jamie, and Jon for attending, the participants had a great time.”
