NEILL COLLINS REVIEWS DEFEAT AGAINST CAMBRIDGE

30 March 2024

Our Head Coach spoke to iFollow Barnsley after the Reds fell to a 2-0 against Cambridge United at Oakwell.

The visitors took the lead in the 13th minute after confusion at the back led to an opener. Despite the Reds dominating possession, it was the U's that struck again in the 72nd minute via Gassan Ahadme's header.

Collins provided his take on the defeat:

"I really don't think the result reflected the performance at all. The first goal is just a complete freak incident. It's the last thing you obviously want against a team that is going to sit compact and make it really difficult. I still thought we did more than enough to get back into the game but we missed gilt-edged chances, chances that we've been putting away all season. Then we lose another goal from a set-piece in the second half which makes it really difficult. Of course there are things that we can do better, no question about that, but we did more than enough. If we do take one of those chances, at the right time, we're feeling an awful lot different. So disappointed with the result, we're all very frustrated with the result because it's a game we want to win and expect to win. When you look at the actual facts of it, it was a pretty strange day."
