Jack Shepherd gave his thoughts to iFollow Barnsley after the Reds were defeated 2-1 at Oakwell by Exeter City on Saturday afternoon.
The Reds found themselves behind two down at the break after goals from Jack Aitchison and Reece Cole for the Grecians in the opening half.
Despite a late Maël de Gevigney headed goal, Neill Collins' side fell to defeat for the first time in the league since November.
Shepherd spoke to iFollow Barnsley post-match:
"Tough one to take. We all know the first half wasn't good enough, but I thought it was a good reaction in the second half. Like I say, the first half was nowhere near good enough than what we're capable of."
