FÁBIO JALÓ EXTENDS DEAL WITH THE REDS

1 January 2024

Barnsley Football Club is delighted to announce that Fábio Jaló has penned a new long-term deal at Oakwell, subject to EFL and FA approval.

The 18-year-old has signed a contract extension until summer 2027, with a further year option in the Club’s favour.

Jaló has made 23 first-team appearances for the Reds and scored three goals, including a scintillating brace aged just 17 against Doncaster Rovers in an EFL Trophy clash last campaign.

The youngster has also impressed on the international scene, displaying his talents on the continent with Portugal U19s in 2023, netting twice in the process.

Since joining the Reds’ academy in 2020 as a 14-year-old, ‘Fáb’ has helped the U18s to back-to-back record-breaking campaigns, firstly reaching the Professional Development League play-offs for the first time in the Club’s history to then topping the Northern PDL division and winning the play-offs at Oakwell the following season in 22/23.

Interim Director of Football, Bobby Hassell has overseen the development of Jaló during his role as Academy Manager at Oakwell and provided his thoughts on the news of his extended stay at the Club:

“Securing the long-term future of Fábio at Barnsley was a move we were keen to act swiftly on due to the obvious talent he possesses and the potential we see in him at the Club.

“The progress that Fábio has made is testament to his hard work and the management from the staff at Oakwell to ensure his development is at the forefront of our thinking – an integral part of the long-term strategy implemented when he first joined us as a young boy.

“Praise must go to the academy staff at the Club also who aided Fáb’s development, including Tom Harban, overseeing his progression from 18s and 21s to the first team, and Tiago Rodrigues, who has upheld a good relationship with Fábio’s family and helped convey our ideas more effectively as an interpreter.

“We felt that Barnsley was the best place for Fábio to continue his development and fulfil his potential and provide a platform to showcase his talents with the guidance of the established support network Fábio has had around him for the last four years.

“We’d like to thank Fábio’s family for trusting us with his development for a further three-and-a-half years and we are excited to continue the good work with Fáb going forward.”

Jaló remains available for sponsorship for the remainder of the 23/24 campaign, contact our commercial team at hospitality@barnsleyfc.co.uk to find out more.
