Maël de Gevigney spoke to iFollow Barnsley after the Reds secured a 1-0 victory at the Kassam Stadium on Tuesday night.
In difficult conditions in Oxfordshire, the Reds produced a battling display to overcome the U's, who sat in fifth place prior to kick-off.
de Gevigney formed part of the defence that kept a clean sheet under the lights, contending with the swirling winds and persistent rain.
The Frenchman believes the victory is a significant one in the context of the league standings and the conditions.
"It was a really important game against a good team, away. We are fighting for promotion, the same for Oxford, so it was a really important game for us.
"The weather was really tough, a lot of wind today. We had it with us in the first half so it was easier for us to play and in the second half it was the opposite. But we keep fighting until the end and we won this game."
