NEILL COLLINS ASSESSES CARLISLE CHALLENGE

15 January 2024

Our Head Coach previewed Tuesday night's clash against Carlisle United in Sky Bet League One at Oakwell.

ON LUCA CONNELL AND JAMIE McCART

"They've both got a chance. We trained this morning, so we'll make a decision later today. We will pick what we think is the best team tomorrow night but also make sure we have these guys fit for a long time to come."

ON JACK SHEPHERD'S RETURN TO THE SIDE

"Jack's mindset is very good, towards getting better. Recognising that he has to be ready for his opportunities, it can be difficult. But you know that you can rely on him and that he's going to give his best. He's still learning, but I thought he was excellent on Saturday. The players around him helped him as well. He's a consumate professional and someone we really enjoy working with him."

ON CURRENT FORM OF TEAM

"It says a lot about consistency, the consistency to pick up results. There are ones in there we would have liked to turn into wins, it could quite easily have been. But at the same time, I think it is a lot of credit to the players for their diligence in taking every game that comes, as boring as it sounds. But now, when it becomes two months guys like you start talking about it, and that's not a bad thing. It's great to have another opportunity tomorrow night to win another game of football."

ON CARLISLE UNITED

"I don't think the players have shown any complaceancy. There shouldn't be. Carlisle have shown that they can beat anybody on their day. They've had a couple of great away victories. You've got to remember, Paul Simpson has done a fantastc job in getting them out of League Two and they've gone through that transition period that other clubs do. As we've seen across the league this year, each game brings its own individual merits. It's very difficult. We'll need the fans, like they were on Saturday like they were from the first whistle, right behind us. The Ponty End was bouncing and it was great to get the goal in front of them. Hopefully, we can repay them again."
