NEILL COLLINS PREVIEWS VISIT OF BRISTOL ROVERS

11 January 2024

Neill Collins spoke to the media ahead Saturday's Sky Bet League One clash against Bristol Rovers at Oakwell.

ON YOUTH CONTRACTS

"A lot of work goes into the Academy with the purpose of producing players for our first-team and producing players to go on and play at the highest level possible. Jonathan Bland has been exceptional for the U18s. He played in the Football League Trophy and acquitted himself very well. We're all thinking about Saturday and Bristol Rovers, but equally we've got to keep an eye on not just next season, but seasons to come. So these guys are very important for that. You just never know when that opportunity might arise."

ON MANAGER AND PLAYER OF THE MONTH NOMINATIONS

"These things always tend to come around when the team is doing well. The manager of the month is about the team, quite clearly, the team has to get results and the players have done that.

"With Herbie, just his consistency. Then when you end up adding assists and goals, it tends to put you towards those awards. I think Devante's been there as well this season. Herbie would admit he's been surrounded by really good teammates but I'm pleased for him. He's been very reliable for us this year, very effective and I think there is more to come."

ON BRISTOL ROVERS

"They were excellent against Norwich. Could quite easily have won that game, missed a couple of really good chances. I thought they looked really good. There has been a distinct change since the new manager came in. They've got a really good squad, they're going to be there or thereabouts I think come the end of the season. They beat Portsmouth and Bolton recently, so they're definitely a more than capable team. It's going to be a challenging game for us here, but one with our players having a little bit of rest, should be really looking forward to and putting in a 90 minute performance."

ON MATT TAYLOR

"He's changed the shape. It's quite a simple thing in terms of it's just a formation, but he has changed the shape. He seems to be getting players like Luke Thomas in the right areas to be a threat and we obviously know all about him. They've got some really good attacking players, Chris Martin has been scoring goals and he's a top, top striker at this level. He's putting the round pegs in round holes. He's clearly a good manager and very experienced."
