Saturday sees our Weston Park Cancer Charity takeover day, marking the first event in the 2024 calendar of the ‘Together At Every Step’ partnership.

The aim of the partnership, with Barnsley, Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United, is for the clubs to come together in raising awareness and supporting the fundraising efforts for the charity. The charity are well on the way to reaching their fundraising target of £50,000 for the partnership campaign and every penny makes a difference.

One of the charity’s latest projects, the Big Purple Bus initiative, which has just celebrated four months on the road, is making its Barnsley debut at Oakwell on Saturday. The Big Purple Bus brings Healthcare Professionals and qualified Welfare Advisors directly into communities, ensuring people across our region have equal access to cancer support services. So, if you spot the Big Purple Bus at Oakwell on Saturday, please feel free to pop on-board and have a chat with the friendly team.

Along with the Big Purple Bus, there will also be one of the charity’s minibuses at Oakwell. Weston Park Cancer Charity provide a free transport service for local residents having cancer treatment. The free service is available in Barnsley, Chesterfield, Rotherham and Meadowhall. Oakwell Stadium is a stop on the Barnsley route, where patients are picked up and dropped off at Oakwell, with free parking for patients’ cars available at the stadium. We are keen to spread the message of the transport service to ensure travel concerns do not prevent patients from accessing treatment.

The Reds players will be warming up in limited edition shirts ahead of the game. The fantastic, one-off shirts will be signed by the players and put up for auction, so keep your eyes peeled for more information on that very soon.

Furthermore, this weekend's game will mark LGBTQ+ History Month. The English Football League (EFL) and Official Match Ball partners, PUMA are proud to mark LGBTQ+ History Month by unveiling the very first Rainbow match ball which will be used by all 72 Clubs across Sky Bet Championship, League One and League Two matches from February 16-24.

The PUMA ORBITA Rainbow Ball design includes the rainbow and progress colours, symbolising that football is for everyone and representing the League’s active support for inclusion throughout the game.

Nick Cox, co-chair of Barnsley Pride will be joining us at Oakwell on Saturday to speak about the work the group do and to chat about the significance of the topic and the EFL initiative.

For every goal scored with the Rainbow Ball across the Championship, League One and League Two PUMA will make a donation to an LGBTQ+ Fans for Diversity Fund. The money raised will be utilised to support LGBTQ+ supporters and their projects which may include initiatives to raise awareness about inclusion in football, events promoting diversity, or providing resources for LGBTQ+ fans within the football community.

The Fanzone also makes a return ahead of the Rams clash! Situated in the East Stand car park, the stage will be filled with Reds chatter and live music from Jack Dickson [pictured below]
