JACK SHEPHERD JOINS CHELTENHAM ON LOAN

1 February 2024

Barnsley Football Club can confirm that Jack Shepherd has joined Cheltenham Town on loan until the end of the season.

The central defender joins the fellow Sky Bet League One outfit for the remainder of the 23/24 campaign.

Shepherd arrived at Oakwell from Pontefract Collieries in the summer and was handed his opportunity under Neill Collins from the bench in our opening day victory against Port Vale back in August.

The 22-year-old made his full league debut against Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium, part of the defence that earned a clean sheet in a 2-0 victory on the road for the Reds.

The former Penistone Church and Athersley Rec man will continue his development with the Robins under Darrell Clarke in the third tier of English football.

Interim Director of Football, Bobby Hassell, said: “We have been extremely impressed with the attitude and application of Jack since his arrival back in the summer.

“He has made massive strides to come from Step 7 of English football to performing in League One and has surpassed all of our expectations.

“This move allows Jack to continue his development at the same level as Barnsley, furthermore, I have a good relationship with Darrell so I am confident that a good environment will be created for Jack to improve.”

We wish Jack the best of luck for his loan spell.
