RAIL SEATING (SAFE STANDING) AT OAKWELL

8 February 2024

Following on from the formation of our first ever fan advisory group, we can confirm that we are in the process of submitting applications to the Sports Ground Safety Authority (SGSA) for the provision of a section of rail seating (safe standing) in the Norman Rimmington South Stand.

We are in the early stages of the process and our application will require further consultation with fan groups, the Safety Advisory Group (SAG) and Barnsley Council however we believe that working together we can deliver safe standing for the fans.

Jon Flatman, Interim Chief Executive Officer, said: “Completion of the recently announced lease with Barnsley Council has accelerated plans to implement safe standing at Oakwell, the Club have now submitted an application to the SGSA for rail seating (safe standing).

“There are several steps in the process including council support, Safety Advisory Group approval and is subject to structural surveys, however we believe it will create a safer and better environment for fans.”

Full minutes from the fan group meeting will be released shortly and we will communicate progress made on safe standing to supporters throughout the process.
