LYNN GOODMAN DELIGHTED WITH CUP PROGRESS

25 February 2024

Our player/coach reflected on a job well done against Hull United this afternoon.

A brace from Kirstie Nicholls, and strikes from Jodie Gregory, Betty Cheetham, Charley Evans and finally Macy Lunn saw the Reds to a thumping 6-0 victory on Sunday afternoon.

Our player/coach, Lynn Goodman was naturally impressed with the performance and in particular, the fact that the goals were spread around the team.

She told us, post-match: "We controlled the game very well today, the surface wasn’t the best but we still tried to play our football and managed to score a few goals. Being creative in the final third is something we’ve been looking at in training and today was great to see numerous people getting on the score sheet."

Lynn was pleased to see the skipper, Charley Evans control the game from the centre of midfield, whilst acknowledging the impact of youngster Macy Lunn.

"Charley has been outstanding over the past month or so and continues to lead by example, also Macy was excellent today especially with limited minutes over the past few months. Coming in and working hard and rewarded with a great goal was good to see."

WOMEN WIN IN HULL

After being on the wrong end of a couple of results in the league recently, Goodman says it was important to get a reaction against Hull.

"After the past few results we’ve focused on going back to basics and players understanding their roles and responsibilities and today was positive to get a good all-round performance with the amount of goals and on the back of two defeats to help boost the confidence within the group."

Progressing in this competition whilst still remaining in the hunt for promotion sees the Reds fighting on two fronts. This isn't lost on Lynn who says it's a clear sign of how far the team have come this season.

She explained, saying: "With regards to the cup, this is a real positive for us as we can now look forward to getting into the quarter finals and try and reward a brilliant season with some silverware!"
