Barnsley Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Josh Earl on a three-and-a-half-year contract, with a further year in the Club’s favour.

The defender arrives at Oakwell from fellow Sky Bet League One outfit Fleetwood Town.

Starting out at Preston North End, Earl broke into the first team at Deepdale aged just 17, progressing through the ranks at the club he joined aged nine.

Making 74 appearances for the Lilywhites, the 25-year-old ended his 14-year spell association with Preston following loan spells at Bolton, Ipswich and Burton, moving to Fleetwood Town on a permanent deal in June 2022.

Earl has missed just four league games of the current campaign for the Cod Army and will begin work with Neill Collins immediately as we approach an important period of the season.

Speaking to iFollow Barnsley, our latest recruit spoke of his excitement in joining the Reds:

“I’m really happy,” smiled Earl. “Just walking around the stadium and meeting the lads today has been really enjoyable. I can’t wait to get going.”

Interim Director of Football, Bobby Hassell, commented on the deal: “We are extremely pleased to be able to welcome Josh to Oakwell.

“He is a player, who despite being only 25, has featured a lot in the Championship and in League One and will bring that experience straight into the team.

“Josh being able to play across a number of positions at the back allows Neill to have a versatile player in the squad and offers flexibility with selection and tactics which was high on our agenda for this window.

“We wish a warm welcome to Josh and look forward to him beginning work with the squad and coaching staff.”

Our latest recruit is available for player sponsorship for the remainder of the 23/24 campaign, contact for more details!
