BARNSLEY PRIDE CHAIR ON DEDICATED LGBTQ+ FIXTURE

24 February 2024

Ahead of Saturday's LGBTQ+ History Month fixture against Derby County at Oakwell, we spoke to Barnsley Pride co-chair Nick Cox.

Barnsley Football Club is proud to mark LGBTQ+ History Month this weekend at Oakwell as we welcome Derby County in Sky Bet League One.

Our fixture will see the use of the first Rainbow match ball at Oakwell and will be used by all 72 Clubs across Sky Bet Championship, League One and League Two matches from February 16-24.

The PUMA ORBITA Rainbow Ball design includes the rainbow and progress colours, symbolising that football is for everyone and representing the EFL's active support for inclusion throughout the game.

We caught up with Nick Cox, co-chair of Barnsley Pride to discuss the significance of the day and the progress of the group:

"It's great to see the EFL and football country-wide celebrating the links with LGBTQ," he began. "It's great to see the initiatives - the rainbow football, corner flags, everything that's going to be there. It's not that we want to focus on us, we want to show the inclusivity of football and celebrate the fact that we're football fans and players united. It doesn't matter what sex we are, what gender we are, we all unite behind playing football."
