DONOVAN PINES SCOOPS MONTHLY AWARDS

4 April 2024

The American centre-back is named the Reds' March Player of the Month and Goal of the Month scorer!

Donovan Pines is voted as the March Player of the Month and Goal of the Month scorer in association with NG Decor after an impressive start to life at Oakwell following his arrival as a free transfer from DC United in January.

The 26-year-old had to be patient for his first involvement under Neill Collins after a short lay-off in action following the off-season in the States, but more than made up for his delayed start with his infectious energy and contributions on the pitch.

Following his debut appearance against Fleetwood Town towards the back end of February, the USA international featured twice for the Reds against Wycombe Wanderers and Bolton Wanderers.

His first start for the Club, Pines sat at the heart of the defence at Adams Park and demonstrated his aerial prowess and prominent threat in both boxes. Not only was it the Maryland-man's first start, but he also netted his first Barnsley goal from a Luca Connell corner, prodding the ball over the line in Buckinghamshire.

A big game under the lights at Oakwell followed, the Reds hosting Bolton Wanderers in Sky Bet League One. We entered the lead via John McAtee's cool finish. Just after the restart, our American defender doubled the scoring with an emphatic finish, winning March's accolade, rifling into the top corner following a poke from Devante Cole from Nicky Cadden's corner.

Pines commented on the winning strike: "I don't even know what I did! Everyone went crazy and I was like 'dang, what just happened?' I celebrated with the team and then Devante Cole pushed me to the fans. That was nice of him."

On winning the award, Donovan thanked the Reds supporters for all their support since his arrival: "I just want to put forward my best effort, on and off the field. I just want to do my best in everything I do and I was able to do very well in the games that I played and score two goals which is very, very amazing.

"I've had so much support from the players, to the staff, the fans and the organisation. They all were behind me and that's really drove my confidence and my commitment."
