NEILL COLLINS' STEVENAGE PREVIEW

8 April 2024

The thoughts of our head coach ahead of Tuesday night's trip to Hertfordshire in Sky Bet League One.

The Reds head to the Lamex Stadium tomorrow evening to take on a Stevenage outift who have slipped out of the play-off positions in recent weeks.

Our own position in the top six still needs securing, particularly so following just a second league defeat away from home this season when on the wrong end of a controversial 2-1 loss against Charlton Athletic in the nation's capital on Saturday.

Reds boss, Neill Collins is keen that his players use that as fuel tomorrow, telling us: "Tuesday night gives us a great opportunity to move on quickly from a disappointing result at Charlton.

"It is so important we take out any of our frustrations from Saturday with our performance on Tuesday evening."

Whilst winless in their last eight fixtures, it's been an impressive season for Stevenage following their promotion as Sky Bet League Two runners up in 2022/23.

"Stevenage have had a fantastic season under Steve Evans," stated Collins. "So for us to take three points we will need to fight and battle for every ball for 90 minutes.

"The team has shown a fantastic resilience and togetherness over these past few months and we will need to show all these qualities again."

With a play-off place to confirm over the next five games and a reaction needed after a tough day at Charlton last time out, Tuesday night offers that opportunity to react.

But there's another incentive for the Reds, as they look to repay the support given to them on the road this term.

"We don’t need a bigger motivating factor than trying to reward our fans that made the wasted trip down back in January when the game was called off prior to kick-off."
