LIAM KITCHING DEPARTS OAKWELL

1 September 2023

Barnsley Football Club can confirm the departure of Liam Kitching to Coventry City on a permanent deal for an undisclosed fee.

Kitching said: “I’m excited to have the opportunity to play in the Championship this season.

“The heartbreak of losing at Wembley was one of the hardest moments of my life, but the way the Barnsley supporters backed us is something I’ll never forget.

“I’d just like to say thank you for all the memories which will stay with me forever. The club will always be in my heart.

“I leave with the team in a good place and I’m confident that with the current squad and coaching staff, the club will have a positive season. YOU REDS.”

Khaled El-Ahmad, Barnsley FC Chief Executive Officer, commented: “We really were reluctant to let Liam go as we have said repeatedly during this transfer. Liam was excited at the opportunity to play in the Championship and all our asks were met, so today he leaves us at Barnsley FC.

“We would like to thank Liam for his efforts during his time with the club and wish him all the best for the future.”

Kitching arrived at Oakwell in January 2021 from Forest Green Rovers, going on to make 93 appearances for the Reds and scoring five goals.

Thank you, Liam – alumni number: 1364.
