SAM COSGROVE AHEAD OF NORTHAMPTON AWAY

21 September 2023

The Reds striker spoke to the assembled media ahead of Saturday's trip to Northampton Town in Sky Bet League One.

ON SETTLING IN AT THE CLUB

"I've settled really well. The club has been massively welcoming to me. You can tell it's a real family club, all the staff behind the scenes, all the boys. It's been a baptism of fire. No real time to bed in, straight into games and straight into it thick and fast. It's been a great experience so far."

ON COMPETITION UP TOP

"It's going to be a long season, plenty of games to play in and plenty of different opposition. Certain styles of play may suit certain teams, certain characters may suit other oppositions. I'm sure there'll be plenty of opportunity for everyone. It's just a point of making that time count when we do get on the pitch."

ON TUESDAY NIGHT CAMEO

"The response was pretty vital. We needed something at half-time. We got a stern talking to and there was a bit of a reality check. I thought the way that everyone responded in the second half was a lot better. In the short time that I've been here I can tell that's what we're about. The first half was obviously a bit of shellshock, going down 3-0 so early. I think on another day we bring the game back to 3-3, maybe even more."

ON MAKING FIRST LEAGUE START

"That's the ultimate goal. We want to be playing as much football as possible. I can affect the manager's decisions but ultimately that's his decision at the end of the day. I'm happy contributing however it may be. If he decides I'm best coming off the bench and affecting the game in the latter stages then I'll take that. But of course, as a footballer, I want to be playing as much football as possible."
