NEILL COLLINS AHEAD OF BLACKPOOL AT OAKWELL

28 September 2023

Our Head Coach previewed Saturday's clash with Blackpool at Oakwell, kicking off at 3pm in Sky Bet League One.

ON TEAM NEWS

"I think we'll miss Kacper in the short term with a shoulder injury. We actually have no idea how long it might be. Very disappointing, because obviously he's been a key part of a lot of the positive things we've done, but it's a chance for someone else. As we've seen with Jack Shepherd and the other night with Conor McCarthy and Mael, they're all eager and ready to play."

ON CENTRE HALF OPTIONS

"We've seen already with Jack, he's come in and done really well. Mael, has been excellent in training and I thought he did excellently the other night. It's just a different environment for him. Obviously, Conor McCarthy is coming back from an ACL and then Nathan James has really impressed and is pushing to be up for selection as well. We do have options. We've got three games coming up and I'm sure they'll all be eager to get an opportunity at some point."

ON WING-BACK COMPETITION

"The wing-backs is an interesting one as we do have great competition there. We need to make it to the point where you're maybe playing the first 60 or you're playing the last 30. How often you play the first 60 will be down to how well you're doing. I wouldn't take anything away from the fact that you coming on is sometimes the time where you have the most joy. I think we've seen that, because Corey's two sub appearances prior to Northampton, he came into open games and vice versa with Barry at Northampton where he was able to counter and make the runs. All four of them have done very well and it's probably the most difficult decision for this weekend."

ON BLACKPOOL

"Very good. I think someone to be very wary of coming down from the Championship, it can sometimes mean a little bit of an indifferent start. But Jordan Rhodes I know well, got a hattrick last week. Neil Critchley has had success with Blackpool before and you can see why. They're very well organised, they have a way of playing. I think this will be a tough a test as any that we've faced. I think Blackpool will be right up the top near the end. It's a good challenge for us."
