COREY O'KEEFFE ON FLEETWOOD DRAW

29 October 2023

Corey O'Keeffe spoke post-match to iFollow Barnsley after he scored the equalising goal at Oakwell on Saturday afternoon.

The right wing-back claimed his first goal for the club as he connected to a brilliant Herbie Kane pass with a diving header in front of the Ponty end to level the scores two minutes from time, following a first-half double for the visitors from Junior Quitirna.

O'Keeffe was delighted to open his Reds account, but felt we could have secured more than a point on Saturday.

"Coming on, the gaffer said we needed to get something out of the game. So we made a few changes and I was delighted to get the goal. I thought we could have gone on and won it in the end, but, we take the point."

The headed goal from the Birmingham-born man was a long time in the making, Kane finding out the pass following some feedback from his teammate.

O'Keeffe was also relieved to see the assistant referee hadn't raised his flag following the goal and that a former teammate didn't turn into enemy overnight.

"I said to him a couple of weeks ago, I had a bit of a go at him because I made the same run and he didn't find it! Then he said he will next time and fair play to him, he found it.

"Their 'keeper [Jay Lynch], I used to play with him. I thought he was going to come out and smash me! But as I got up and looked over at the 'lino', I was glad it wasn't offside."
