NEILL COLLINS ON EMPHATIC WIN IN CAMBRIDGE

4 October 2023

Our Head Coach gave his thoughts on our 4-0 victory on the road against Cambridge United to iFollow Barnsley.

The Reds controlled the affair in Cambridgeshire but came out of the blocks especially fast and went ahead inside the opening ten minutes via a Nicky Cadden strike.

Collins was particularly pleased with his side's opening 45 showing both with and without the ball.

"We've got to look at the positives first of all. I think the first half was some of the best we've seen. Both sides of the ball. I thought we were aggressive against the ball, great in possession. Some of our play front to back was very good, rewarded with some goals. They put us under some pressure from set pieces but as first half's go away from home, very positive."

Our third goalscorer was Mael de Gevigney, netting for the first time in Barnsley colours since arriving in the summer.

Not just content with the Frenchman's account opener, the Scot was delighted with how he and the defence performed to keep a clean sheet at the Abbey Stadium.

"The most important thing for me with Mael is his performances. To get the goal, I think the group were very pleased for him. And I'm sure he's just as pleased about the clean sheet. Again, with Mael, we know he's coming in to a new country, new league. He's doing well, we just need to keep working with him, like we do all the players. We know that there could be some bumps in the road. It's a tough league, for anyone, even the people that have been in it for a long time. Pleased that he's had his opportunity in the team and he's taken it."
