NEILL COLLINS AHEAD OF HORSHAM TRIP

13 November 2023

Neill Collins answered questions from the media ahead of Horsham vs Barnsley on Tuesday night.

ON MENTAL APPROACH TO TOMORROW NIGHT

"First and foremost, when you're in a cup competition, you expect to be in the next round. We'll do everything we can to go and win the game. The big thing is going to be the mentality. So the message is make sure our mentality is right, to compete with desire. You should compete when you play for Barnsley. The last couple of games that has not been at the level it should have been."

REFLECTIONS OF FIRST ROUND TIE

"We had a good spell heading into Horsham. I thought we were playing well, performances were good. Then I think the Horsham game, it was more subconscious. I think the players we're up for it, but subconsciously they were maybe taken by surprise a couple of times. It's happened to a lot of teams over the years. You don't want it to happen to you, you learn from it. When it becomes a pattern, I'll address it with the group. I think they've done really well, but that's something we can't have if we're going to compete where we want to in this league."

ON FACING AN UNDERDOG

"It's tough. That's part of why the FA Cup is so special, because there are upsets throughout the competition all the way to the final. With teams from lower leagues beating teams from higher up the tiers. It's just part and parcel of being a professional. Being able to match what they can bring in respect to their mentality and intensity. Then matching it and letting your quality come through. If we do that, we expect to win the game."

ON SURROUNDINGS ON TUESDAY EVENING

"You should never assume anything, but we got the warning here and we're still in the hat. Sometimes you get that warning and you're out. We've got the second chance, so regardless of what environment we're going into - playing on a 4G pitch, it'll be a tight, hostile crowd. A lot of people around the country will be against us and for Horsham. The players won't need any warning against that, they should expect that. They should be focused on the fact we get a second chance to put it right."

ON TEAM NEWS

"The only main one is Josh Benson. He obviously limped out on Saturday two or three minutes after coming on. We suspect he'll be a major doubt for Tuesday night. Everyone else is good."
