Neill Collins spoke to the media ahead of our Emirates FA Cup first round tie with Horsham on Friday evening at Oakwell.
ON INJURY NEWS
"We're in a position where everything is the same as it was injury-wise. We've more or less got a full squad to pick from and it's really about me just making judgement calls on who needs games but how do we win the game. I would say that we've been quite fortunate up to this point in the season, with that we've had a couple of international breaks so it's not like the players have been overworked at this point. It's more important that they keep on that trajectory, Saturday to Saturday. We've got busier months coming up and that's then maybe you can be able to make more changes."
ON TEAM SELECTION
"First of all, how do we win the game? So picking a team that can win the game. I think it's important that we build on the momentum that we've created in terms of the performances really improving. We've got to be mindful of that. I've got my own experiences as a player where there have been too many changes. It can become disjointed, and that's not because the players are not good enough. We've got enough good players to give an opportunity to, but I have to consider the players that have built up those relationships and what can give us a good base. Fans can expect to see a strong side and a side capable of winning and building up what we've done."
ON DEVELOPMENT OF YOUNGSTERS AT OAKWELL
"I think that's probably part of a bigger discussion internally as we look at our squad. I think we've got a lot of different options. Theo Chapman has made his senior league debut, Fabio [Jalo] is obviously someone who is very talented and highly regarded. Plays international football, scored a lot of goals. Aiden Marsh started the season in and around the squad. We've got a real production line coming. How we get them ready to play for Barnsley is a constant discussion. Bobby [Hassell], myself, Tom Harban, we discuss loans, we've got players out there. We're just trying to get the balance right, a lot of guys to keep happy as well in the squad. I think we've done a relatively good job up to this point. We want to continue to create opportunities for these players, but we also know that the club needs to be at the top end of the league. We want to be getting through these rounds of the cup. These young players have to go through some of the learning experiences, some for Barnsley, but some out on loan. Hopefully we can get that right so we've got some homegrown players on our hands."
"Horsham have been in the FA Cup at these stages before. They've got an experienced manager, although he's a similar age to myself, he's got a lot of games under his belt for the club. Fantastic result in the previous round against a National League team, which we know the standard of that is very strong right now. It will be different and they'll pose different challenges. I've played in some similar games and it's never straightforward. They're going to be coming here and they're going to be putting everything on the line. I've said to the players that I wouldn't expect anything less from ourselves no matter who we're playing. Hopefully we can just continue to build on the things that we've done really well. I think if we do the things that we've done really well, we can make it very difficult for anyone who comes here."
