11 May 2023

Our Young Player of the Season for 22/23 spoke ahead of Saturday's trip to Bolton in the Play-Off semi final first leg.

ON HIS TIME AT BOLTON

“I was there from the age of 7, so I have to thank them for everything they taught me there, that has helped me get to where I am today.

“I think I was 17 when I made my debut there, so I have to thank the gaffer at that time for trusting me to play at such a young age at that level.

“It wasn’t nice leaving when I did but it was a big move for me, going to Celtic, and the cash for the club was a big factor too. It didn’t work out for me at that time, but I don’t regret it.”

THE TASK THIS SATURDAY

“They’re obviously a good club, good team and we know they’re going to be a big challenge for us. But we’re preparing well for the best version of them.

“We’ll be going there on Saturday to win. There might be this idea that you stay in the game and you have the second leg to come. But for us it’s about winning both games.”

NOT LOOKING TOO FAR AHEAD

“Our focus is on Saturday really. Whilst the opportunity to play at Wembley, the chance of promotion is what we all dream about, we know that we can only affect what is right in front of us.

“It’s going to be exciting. These are the games - the high-pressure, high-tariff games - that you want to play in.

“I know the fans will be right behind us and hopefully we can go there and make the ideal start in the play-offs.”

SOLE FOCUS

“It’s good that Bolton are back up and running, back on sound footing after some difficult times, particularly for the people I know who are still there.

“But it’s all about us. It’s us versus them. I only care about Barnsley and about ending this season in the best possible fashion.”
