MAX WATTERS ON MASSIVE VICTORY AGAINST THE OWLS

22 March 2023

The striker's thoughts after crucial goal helps the Reds to all three points in last night's South Yorkshire derby.

Making an impact from the bench with the key third goal of the night for Barnsley, forward Max Watters was quick to praise the 'amazing' group that he shares the Reds dressing room with, following a huge victory in Sky Bet League One on Tuesday night.

"It's such a good feeling in the changing room, we are over the moon after that. It was such a good start, but Wednesday are a good side, they came back at us and you saw our response.

"I don't know too much about the goal to be honest, a few of the lads reckon it was a bit of a scuff, but I'm not sure about that!"

It's been a stop/start time with the Reds so far for Watters, having seen himself sent off after his first goal for the club. But with his fitness improving and minutes increasing, he believes he's only going to get stronger as he seeks more opportunities to help Barnsley keep moving forward.

He's happy, enjoying his football and keen to make sure that this crucial strike is merely a sign of things to come during the run-in.

"I'm loving it here, it's a great club. The lads up top, Nors and Coley are smashing it. So I fully understand. I just have to be ready when called upon. It was an amazing feeling to score in front of our fans there, to celebrate like that.

"But it's only three points. We'll park it and get ready for Exeter now."
