BARNSLEY FC MAKE DONATION TO ALCOHOL CHANGE UK

8 March 2023

Barnsley Football Club has made a donation to the charity, Alcohol Change UK following our support of Dry January.

During the opening month of 2023, all profits made on the sales of Athletic Brewing at Oakwell were pledged to be donated to Alcohol Change UK.

The charity were running their annual Dry January® initiative to kick off the New Year, with Reds fans wishing to take part, having the option of purchasing a 'brew fit for football' in a can of Athletic on matchdays.

Furthermore, the price of all Athletic Brewing across Oakwell were reduced to just £1 to make the choice easier for those hoping to participate in Dry January®

The Reds donated hundreds of pounds to the cause, with Alcohol Change UK showing their appreciation to the Club and Athletic: "We were delighted that Barnsley FC chose to support Alcohol Change UK’s work to celebrate their new shirt sponsor Athletic Brewing," said Danielle Houliston, Director of Fundraising and Engagement at Alcohol Change UK.

"They have donated £1 from every Athletic Brewing non-alcoholic beer sale at home matches during January. Their donation will help us provide information, advice and free tools for anyone struggling with their drinking and their families.

"We are also excited to see Barnsley FC embracing alcohol-free drink options at their home ground. Offering alcohol-free alternatives is a great way to provide people with enjoyable non-alcoholic options so that they can choose not to drink if they’d like to. This helps to challenge a culture where drinking alcohol is the default, not a choice. It also provides a much more inclusive environment for non-drinkers and for those looking to cut down."

Athletic Brewing commented: "Here at Athletic Brewing, we are so proud to be working with Barnsley FC to promote responsible drinking around football stadiums in the UK. During January, all proceeds from sales of our award-winning alcohol-free beers at Oakwell Stadium were donated to Alcohol Change UK.

"Barnsley FC is a historic football club with community at the heart of all they do, and through our relationship, we hope to have a real impact in Oakwell and beyond."

Barnsley CEO, Khaled El-Ahmad, added: "To be able to make a substantial donation to Alcohol Change UK via the Together Red initiative makes us extremely proud as a Club. We thank Athletic Brewing for their support to help a charity that does extremely good work both locally and nationwide.

"Upon launching 'Together Red', helping our local community and helping charities was high up on our agenda. Along with Barnsley Hospice and Weston Park Cancer Charity, it is extremely pleasing to add Alcohol Change UK to the list of charities that Barnsley FC has helped in recent months and is something we endeavour to continue."
