PITCH INCURSIONS UPDATE

31 March 2023

The Club would like to issue an update regarding supporters encroaching onto the field of play.

Barnsley FC have been contacted by the FA regarding supporters who entered the playing surface on Tuesday night against Sheffield Wednesday. Four supporters were arrested on the night and others have been subsequently identified, via analysis of CCTV, and will face further action.

The Football Offences Act 1991 specifically states the following:

It is an offence for a person at a designated football match to go onto the playing area, or any area adjacent to the playing area to which spectators are not generally admitted, without lawful authority or lawful excuse (which shall be for him to prove).

Please do not enter the field of play at any time, this compromises the safety of both  players and officials and can also result in penalties for the Club. Recent pitch invasions have brought football bans, police prosecution and criminal records - this can impact employment, education and international travel.

From fans, to stewards, to players, we all have a role to play in keeping each other safe on matchdays.

We appreciate your fantastic support and co-operation on this matter.
