SUPPORT YOUR NON-LEAGUE SIDE THIS WEEKEND

24 March 2023

The Reds aren’t in action this weekend due to international call-ups in the Ipswich Town camp, but you can still get your football fix with our local teams.

It’s National Non-League Day on Saturday and grassroots football clubs desperately need supporters through the turnstiles to help with the growing running costs.

In the NCEL Premier Division, Frickley Athletic entertain Hallam, and there are a couple of former Barnsley academy players in the ranks at Westfield Lane in Ben Hall and Lloyd Smith.

Hemsworth Miners Welfare – another side with ex-Red representatives, Kane Swinburn and Sam Tingle, are also on home soil as they welcome Albion Sports to the Just Football MDC Sports Stadium.

High flying Penistone Church travel to Garforth for their fixture, and they’ll be looking to get back to winning ways after suffering a 3-0 defeat to runaway league leaders North Ferriby last weekend.

Dropping down a division, it’s a bit of a drive to follow Worsbrough Bridge as they make a long trip to Nottinghamshire for their clash with Retford.

Athersley Rec are also on the road in a proverbial relegation six-pointer against Parkgate, who are based in Rotherham.

Heading up the pyramid and FC Halifax Town have a tricky tie to negotiate at promotion chasing Chesterfield in the National League.

Alternatively, you might fancy watching some of our own academy players in action, with three potentially playing in one match as Bradford Park Avenue host Buxton in the National League North.

Will Lancaster has already established himself in Avenue’s first team and Harrison Nejman will be hoping to expose himself to first team football having joined on loan earlier this week. Joe Ackroyd is a regular fixture in the Bucks’ side, who are currently 13 games unbeaten.

Elsewhere, Jack Butterfill and Paul Cooper will be in contention to start as Ossett United face North Shields in the Northern Premier League, while Keegan Hartley’s FC United of Manchester entertain Marske United at Broadhurst Park.

See below for a list of selected fixtures:
Bradford Park Avenue v Buxton
Chesterfield v FC Halifax Town
FC United of Manchester v Marske United
Frickley Athletic v Hallam
Garforth v Penistone Church
Hemsworth Miners Welfare v Albion Sports
Parkgate v Athersley Rec
Retford v Worsbrough Bridge
