KAREEM HASSAN-SMITH REFLECTS ON OWLS WIN

29 March 2023

Kareem Hassan-Smith reflected on a massive 1-0 victory over local rivals Sheffield Wednesday, alongside his joy to be back out on the pitch following his injury.

The young Reds secured a priceless win courtesy of Josiah Dyer’s second half goal as he turned home Danny Benson’s fine cross.

“I thought it was a very good performance from the lads, and it’s good to get the three points – especially in a local derby,” asserted Hassan-Smith. “Everyone on the team played really well and credit to them, we all played for each other. We defended as a unit and held out through the second half and ended up getting the goal that we deserved.

“I was excited to play today, obviously I’ve been out for a while so coming in and playing a full 90 against Sheffield Wednesday was massive for me. It was a really physical game so a bit of a challenge for me, but I was happy to get back out on the pitch and get some game time into my legs, so I’m really happy playing the full game.”

The 20-year-old was a big reason the Reds claimed a clean sheet in the local derby, as despite playing as an attacking wing-back, he was able to track back and cut out Sheffield Wednesday attacks with ease.

He’s now eagerly anticipating the last couple of months of the campaign and is hoping that his side can put a good run together and finish strongly.

“I’m really looking forward to the final few games of the season, I think that’s a few wins on the bounce now, so we’ve got a little bit of momentum,” continued Hassan-Smith. “If we all apply ourselves, hopefully we can carry on playing well and winning games.

“All the lads are buzzing at the moment and happy with the result, everyone knows the rivalry we have with Wednesday so we’re all really happy we got the win.”
