KACPER ŁOPATA JOINS THE REDS

6 June 2023

Barnsley Football Club is pleased to announce the acquisition of young defender Kacper Łopata on a free transfer.

The 21-year-old pens a four-year deal with the Reds, becoming our first signing of the 23/24 summer transfer window.

Born in Krakow, Łopata moved to England at a young age. Aged 17, he moved to Premier League outfit Brighton and Hove Albion. After two years on the south coast, Łopata arrived in South Yorkshire to link up with Paul Heckingbottom at Sheffield United in the youth setup at Bramall Lane.

Standing at 6’ 3”, Łopata has made his mark internationally for his home country Poland, representing all age groups from under 18s to under 21s.

In September 2022 he joined Southend United, before less than a year later moving to Woking, helping the Cards to a fourth-place finish in the National League.

An ambitious youngster with 68 first-team appearances to his name, Łopata arrives at Oakwell looking to make his mark on Michael Duff’s side:

“It’s a great club to invest my future in,” began our latest recruit. “It’s got a great history of developing players and I thought I could do just that here.”

“We are pleased to be able to have signed Kacper on a long-term deal,” added Barnsley FC CEO, Khaled El-Ahmad. “He is a young player whose development we look forward to seeing at Oakwell.”

Welcome to Barnsley, Kacper Łopata!

Our preparations for next season have begun - the question is, will you be joining us?
