Jonathan Bland has been called up to the latest Wales U19s national team.
Our U18s captain will link up with Rob Edwards’ 22-player squad later this month as they face Sweden in two friendly matches.
Both fixtures are scheduled take place at the Leckwith Stadium, Cardiff, on Thursday 15 June (6pm) and Sunday 18 June (3pm) and are free for supporters to attend with ticketless entry.
“It’s a huge honour for me, personally, but also for my family, who are over the moon for me,” said Bland. “It’s a big step in the right direction.”
The 17-year-old enjoyed a stellar campaign and was deservedly named as Academy Player of the Season for his efforts, featuring 38 times under Nicky Eaden and Tom Harban, and also lifting the Professional Development League title for our U18s.
He has already made seven appearances for Wales at younger age groups and is relishing the prospect of being involved once more.
“I’m really looking forward to the camp; I know a lot of the boys well and it’ll be nice to see some familiar faces and put myself up against some of the best in my age group,” continued Bland.
“There’s a lot of very good players in the squad, so it’ll be tough. All I’ve got to do is focus on performing in training to make it hard for me not to get on the pitch.”
