MAX WATTERS ON HIS RETURN TO OAKWELL

26 July 2023

Our latest signing spoke exclusively to iFollow Barnsley after returning to Oakwell on a permanent basis.

After a loan spell with the Reds in the second half of last season, Watters this time returns to South Yorkshire on a permanent basis until 2026, with a further option in the Club's favour.

The 24-year-old has fond memories of his time in Barnsley and is ready to prove what he can do with the security of a lasting deal.

"I had a few months here last year and I really enjoyed it," he began. "I really like what I saw and I'm really happy to be back."

It was an up-and-down period for the Camden-born striker whilst with the Reds, scoring four big goals, but hampered by suspension and injury at the start.

Despite any frustration felt by our new recruit over last season's events, he is optimistic for what the next three years at Oakwell holds.

"I didn't play as many games as I wanted to last season," he admitted. "Hopefully, this season that can change and we can get as much success as we can.

"The start didn't go as well as I expected with the red card on my first game. I then got injured and then obviously the strikers that we had were doing really well, so they managed to keep their place in the team and it didn't go as well as I expected it to.

"I scored four goals in I think five starts which is a positive for me," continued Watters. "So now I've just got to look forward to this season and be as good as I can be."
