We are happy to announce the signing of goalkeeper, Liam Roberts, on loan until the end of the season.
The 28-year-old joins the Reds from Sky Bet Championship outfit Middlesbrough and will link up with Neill Collins’ squad for the duration of the 23/24 campaign.
Barnsley FC Chief Executive Officer, Khaled El-Ahmad, said: “We are happy to be able to bring Liam to Barnsley until the end of the season.
“He is a player who has experience of playing and excelling in the EFL and will bolster the depth of our goalkeeping department.
“We wish Liam the best of luck and look forward to seeing him in action in a Barnsley shirt.”
Roberts spoke exclusively to iFollow Barnsley after joining the Club and spoke of his desire to make his mark on the team: “It’s amazing for me.
“I’m looking forward to the season starting, meeting the boys and getting to know all the coaching staff.
“I’m ready to go, ready to meet all the fans and just crack on with the season.”
Coming through the ranks at Walsall, Roberts experienced an early taste of senior football with several loan moves in non-league football in his formative years between the sticks.
An opportunity Northampton Town materialised in 2021 as our latest recruit impressed at Sixfields, winning the Fans and Players Player of the Season in 21/22.
Roberts’ performances caught the attention of ‘Boro, who snapped up the ‘keeper in summer 2022, deputising for Zach Steffen throughout the campaign.
The Midlands-born shot stopper arrives in South Yorkshire looking to build on his impressive 200 appearances in English football and stake his claim as our starting goalkeeper.
