We are happy to announce the signing of Nathan Tunchatchawan James.
The 18-year-old has put pen to paper on a professional deal at Oakwell and will join our new cohort of U21s following a successful trial period within our academy.
Having most recently represented Burnley, the centre-half will continue his development with the club under the stewardship of Bobby Hassell and Tom Harban.
Academy Manager, Hassell, commented on the addition: "Nathan caught our attention last season while he was with Burnley U18s.
"In my opinion, he stood out as the top centre-half in our program. Through our connection with Burnley, we inquired early on about Nathan's situation. To our surprise, we learned that Burnley planned to release him at the end of his scholarship. We managed to bring Nathan in for a month at the conclusion of the season, during which he played several matches with both the 21s and 18s teams.
"His performances were exceptional, and we are delighted that he has chosen to sign for Barnsley, despite interest from other clubs. Nathan is a highly skilled defender who possesses all the necessary attributes to have a promising career. However, like the rest of the players, he now must prove himself in our environment and earn his place in the first-team setup.
"We have high hopes for Nathan and believe he has the potential to make a significant impact."
