The young defender penned a three-year deal with the Reds and exclusively spoke to iFollow Barnsley about his move to Oakwell.
Lofthouse arrives in South Yorkshire as a free agent after most recently spending time with National League outfit Woking.
Operating as a right wing-back, the 22-year old spoke of his gratitude for the Reds in securing his services this summer.
"I think with a club like Barnsley, I don't think there needs much convincing," our latest recruit discussed. "When I heard about the interest, I was really excited and now I just can't wait to get going."
The Reds have seen numerous young talents come through the door at Oakwell from lower leagues that have developed significantly during their time at the club.
Lofthouse spoke of how the Reds have nurtured young talent in the past played as a pull factor for the Oxford United graduate to commit his future at Oakwell.
"I'm still a young player," he continued. "I'm only 22, so I think there is development and Barnsley has got a reputation of developing younger players from the lower leagues.
"It was definitely a big factor as well."
