After putting pen to paper on a four-year deal with the Reds, Luca Connell spoke exclusively to iFollow Barnsley.
The young midfielder committed his future at Oakwell following an impressive opening campaign in a Reds shirt.
Now, Connell is looking to kick on and improve on last season's performance both personally and as a team unit.
"I think if you look back at it overall off the back of the season before there were a lot of negative comments around the place," revealed the 22-year old.
"But, I think we turned that around. The fans, everyone at the Club being positive and I think that comes from the hard work on the training pitch and the performances we were putting in."
The Republic of Ireland youth international arrived in South Yorkshire from Scottish giants Celtic, but failed to breakthrough into the first-team setup under Ange Postecoglou.
Connell's primary focus was to knuckle down at Oakwell and earn the opportunity to show what he can do.
"Everyone sets their own targets before the season starts. I'd come off the back of a season where I hadn't played too much football," he explained.
"I had aimed to play 20 games coming back to the English leagues and I went past that quite early so I was really grateful for that."
