BOBBY THOMAS REACTS TO VICTORY ON REDS DEBUT

22 January 2023

The defender opened his account in a Reds shirt with a 3-1 victory over Accrington Stanley in Sky Bet League One on Saturday.

James Norwood opened the scoring with an acrobatic effort inside ten minutes, with Jack Aitchison and Jordan Williams adding to the tally inside the opening half. The visitors grabbed a late goal from the spot, converted by Tommy Leigh.

"A very good afternoon," began the 21-year-old. "I can't complain with the three points - it's hard to go and win a game of football. I thought the first half an hour we were excellent. We imposed our game on them and with three great goals, it was the perfect start really."

Arriving late last week, the centre-back joined the Reds on loan from Burnley FC and featured on the bench at Charlton Athletic.

Thomas this time found himself in the starting lineup to face Accrington, and played a big part in the Reds' opener on Saturday afternoon.

"I knew I couldn't score, so it was just about keeping it alive really," he discussed. "I had hands all around my neck and I've just done my best to keep it alive. I didn't even see the goal to be honest! It looked like a really good goal, but just keeping the ball alive was my main thought."
