JACK WALTON DEPARTS OAKWELL

30 January 2023

Barnsley Football Club can confirm that Jack Walton has today joined Sky Bet Championship outfit, Luton Town for an undisclosed fee.

The shot-stopper arrived at Oakwell back in 2014 as a 15-year-old, impressing the Academy staff and quickly becoming the regular goalkeeper for our U18s.

Walton signed his first professional deal with the Reds in the summer of 2015, breaking into the first team towards the back end of the 17/18 Championship season.

The 24-year-old featured during our League One promotion campaign of 18/19, pulling off a stellar clean sheet in his first start, an away game against Walsall, in what was an important victory on the road to Daniel Stendel’s side clinching second place.

Five clean sheets in nine games for Walton towards the conclusion of the 19/20 season helped the Reds complete an incredible escape from Championship relegation, seeing the ‘keeper rewarded with a new three-year-deal at Oakwell.

Making nine appearances for Michael Duff this term, Walton departs the Club after nine years, thanking the fans for all their support during his time in South Yorkshire: “I just want to say thank you to everyone at Barnsley Football Club, the players, the staff and the fans during my time at the Club.

“I will always remember the good times I have had there, including the promotions and the great escape! I wish you all the best in the future.”

Everyone at Oakwell thanks Jack for his contribution during his time at the Club and wishes him all the best in his future endeavours.

Thank you, Jack – alumni number #1327.
