GET TO KNOW: HARRY ISTED

30 January 2023

Joining from Luton Town, the ‘keeper arrives on loan at Oakwell until the end of the 22/23 season.

The 25-year-old becomes our fourth signing this January, joining the goalkeeping ranks at Oakwell for the remainder of the campaign.

Reds fans can find out a little more about our latest recruit below!

Harry Isted was born in Chichester, West Sussex on 5 March 1997, beginning his footballing career not too far from home, on the South coast with the Saints.

Following a spell with Southampton, Staffordshire beckoned for Isted, and as an 18-year-old, joined Stoke City. Whilst with the Potters, Isted worked closely with England international, Jack Butland and Premier League veteran, Shay Given.

The Bet365 stadium was home for a year for Isted, following his release from the club, with then Sky Bet League Two outfit Luton Town securing the services of our latest addition ahead of the 17/18 campaign.

In January 2018, Isted joined Chesham United on a one-month youth loan, going on to make seven appearances for the Generals, including a clean sheet on his debut against Royston Town in a 2-0 win.

The Hatters achieved promotion to Sky Bet League One, with Isted making his debut for the club in an EFL Trophy victory against Brighton & Hove Albion’s U23s in their first season at that level for ten years.

In the same competition, the Englishman went on to make a clean sheet in a 3-0 win over MK Dons. For the majority of the campaign, Isted deputised for James Shea in Nathan Jones’ title-winning side – beating Daniel Stendel’s Barnsley side to the title by three points.

With Luton breaking their transfer record to bring in Croatian goalkeeper Simon Sluga in September 2019, Isted joined Oxford City on a month-long loan deal, once again keeping a clean sheet on his debut. Following this stint with Oxford, Wealdstone of the National League South beckoned.

In a season interrupted due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Wealdstone found themselves at the top of the league, and on points per game were promoted to the National League with Isted being between the sticks for The Stones.

In September 2020, Isted re-joined Wealdstone for their National League campaign, his spell being cut short due to an injury for Sluga at his parent club in November. However, he finished the campaign at Grosvenor Vale, signing on loan until the end of the season in January 2021.

Isted spent the 21/22 season at Kenilworth Road, making his first appearance of the campaign in an Emirates FA Cup fifth round home tie against Chelsea. Jones was forced into an early change in the game, with Jed Steer having to be replaced. The Reds’ latest signing gained plaudits around the world for his showing against the then world champions, with first choice ‘keeper Shea branding Isted’s performance as a ‘worldie’.

A league debut followed in April 2022, replacing the injured Shea in a Sky Bet Championship clash against Cardiff City in the Welsh capital - a 1-0 win for the Hatters. Isted started the following match against Blackpool, his first for the club, in a 1-1 draw against the Tangerines.

Isted has deputised for Ethan Horvath so far this season, with Luton being in the hunt for a play-off place in the Sky Bet Championship.

Oakwell is the latest destination for Isted, hoping to provide some competition in the goalkeeping department and push the Reds in the second half of the 22/23 Sky Bet League One campaign.

Everyone at Oakwell wishes Harry the best of luck for his time at the Club!
