FIRST INTERVIEW | MAX WATTERS

6 January 2023

After signing on loan for the remainder of the 22/23 campaign, Max Watters spoke exclusively to iFollow Barnsley.

The 23-year-old arrives at Oakwell on loan from Cardiff City - joining the Bluebirds in January 2021 for a reported seven figure fee - and becomes the Reds' first addition in the January window.

Speaking to iFollow Barnsley, Watters provided an insight into what Reds fans can expect out on the pitch from our latest recruit.

"I'm an out and out striker," he began. "I love to score goals, to work hard and just contribute as much as I can to the team.

"I look at all the best strikers," Watters continued. "That's where the goals come from don't they, in the box, near the goal. They're the easiest to score, and hopefully that's what I can do this season."

South Yorkshire is not unfamiliar territory for Watters, signing for Doncaster Rovers on a permanent deal in 2018. Since then, his career has taken him to Crawley Town, MK Dons and his now parent club, Cardiff City.

However, the Camden-born frontman is focused on his time in Barnsley and making an impact on a team going well in Sky Bet League One.

"Yeah, it's a great club. Great manager, great players - I couldn't have asked for a better team to come to.

"I've watched quite a few games to be honest," he admitted. "A lot of the games are very attacking, a lot of chances to be scored and defensively, really good. I'm really pleased with that.

"Hopefully, I can fit in well. It's obviously going to be tough to get into the team as they're doing well. But hopefully, I can slot in, get along with the players and contribute to the team."
