Our Head Coach provided his reaction to our 3-1 win over Accrington Stanley exclusively for iFollow Barnsley.
The Reds got off the mark in 2023 with a comfortable victory over Stanley, with James Norwood, Jack Aitchison and Jordan Williams netting for Michael Duff's side.
"I thought we were good from minute one," began the 45-year-old. "We had a real intensity about us. There was good quality, and three goals in the first 20 minutes is always ideal!
"I thought in the rest of the first half, we had an intent," he discussed. "Start of the second half, came out with the same intent. Aggressive with the press, some good quality football and some good chances."
After a fantastic couple of months to finish off 2022, the Reds going unbeaten across both November and December, the turn of the year saw Duff's men not get on the scoresheet in the opening three games.
However, spirited performances against Bolton and Charlton Athletic provided a sense that it was only a matter of time before the Reds got a result and got back firing in front of goal.
"I didn't think we were bad last week," added Duff. "Ultimately, you need to score when you're dominant. We did that today, so the game pans out completely differently.
"I think it was from a set play - Bobby Thomas has kept it alive which gives 'Nors' (Norwood) the chance. Jack's was a nice little finish. The third goal is excellent team play. But, after that, there was loads of chances as well. A lot of the stuff we worked on came out today, that doesn't always happen. It's been a forward-thinking week in difficult conditions."
