JORDAN WILLIAMS ASSESSES VALE CHALLENGE

13 February 2023

Ahead of our trip to Port Vale on Tuesday evening, Jordan Williams says morale is high in the Barnsley camp.

The Reds have picked up 10 points from the last four outings and travel to Burslem looking to further cement our place in the top six with a positive result.

“I think, obviously, it’s another tough game,” he assessed. “We’re going there to try and win the game; the boys are confident and in a good vein of form, so we’ll go to try and win.

“They’re a team that are organised and do the basics well. It’s going to be a scrap, and we’re going to have to live up to that and scrap with them to get the three points.”

Barnsley had to show character in Saturday’s victory over Cambridge United after Max Watters was dismissed with eight minutes of the first half remaining.

Williams was on target for the fourth time this season in that win, rasping a superbly taken half-volley into the bottom corner from 25-yards to double the lead.

“That’s one thing I wanted to progress on this year; goal contributions – if that’s an assist or a goal for myself, and I think I’m doing well on that at the moment,” he stated.

“It’s good to contribute and score goals, but I think the main thing on Saturday was getting the three points for the team.

“I think everyone dug deep after going down to 10-men early doors and we defended well and got the clean sheet – we haven’t had a clean sheet for a while, so that was a positive.”
