LEO FARRELL REFLECTS ON EMPHATIC WIN OVER HULL

20 February 2023

Having netted twice in our U18s’ impressive 5-1 win over Hull City, Leo Farrell expressed his delight after heavily contributing in such a dominant display.

The young forward struck twice after the break to effectively end the tie as a contest as the rampant Reds swept their opponents aside with consummate ease.

“Overall, it was a great team performance,” asserted Farrell. “We switched off for a minute and conceded early on, but as we grew into the game, we found what was needed to kill them off and grind out the three points.”

The striker netted a quick-fire double midway through the second half to put the game to bed and add to his goal tally.

That’s five for the season now, and Farrell is looking to repay the faith shown in him by the coaching staff by finding the target more frequently.

“It’s an amazing feeling,” he beamed. “I’ve only recently been given regular game time which makes the feeling even better. It shows that I’m willing to lead from the front and help the team when they need it.”

The young Reds are now 13 points clear at the Professional Development League summit, with second place Sheffield United coming unstuck against Crewe Alexandra.

As chance would have it, our U18s travel to the Blades next weekend, and a positive result in the South Yorkshire derby could prove to be a defining moment in the season.

“The togetherness of this group is impressive,” he stated. “We have some real quality in this side. The lads all have each other’s backs no matter what and we bounce off each other every day. It’s a pleasure to play with them.

“Our aim is to win the league. We’re in a great position already and I’m confident we can achieve it.”
