Lifetime Barnsley FC supporter, Callum Simpson spoke to iFollow Barnsley after recently signing a professional boxing deal with 'Boxxer' and 'Sky Sports'.
As part of the announcement, the 26-year-old will fight at Manchester Arena on March 25, with his opponent to still be confirmed.
Returning to Oakwell, Simpson spoke of his eagerness to get going:
"I'm really excited for it," began the middleweight. "I've just signed a long-term deal with Boxxer Promotions and Sky Sports. I went to the Liam Smith/Chris Eubank Jr undercard a few weeks ago and I've just seen the crowd there, seeing all the setup - I just thought 'I can't wait for this to be me'.
The Club has always been close to Simpson's heart throughout his career, with many Reds supporters backing one of their own during his 10-0 boxing career.
His Barnsley beginnings are a source of pride for Simpson, drawing on the support of the players from the Club he has supported all his life.
"I love it, it's absolutely mint. I've got everyone messaging me all the time saying 'You're putting Barnsley on the map'," he explained.
"I'll be here (Oakwell) on Saturday for the big Derby game. I've had loads of support from the fans and the players as well. I think there's a game - kick off is 3pm on 25 March - I think a few are going to get a coach over to get straight over to the fight."
